Wärtsilä
to supply propulsion solutions for
Grimaldi Group newbuild programme

Technology
group Wärtsilä will supply a range of
propulsion solutions for nine newbuild
ferries under construction for
Grimaldi Group fleets. The vessels are
being built at China Merchants
Shipbuilding Industry Group Weihai
Shipyard as part of Grimaldi’s fleet
renewal programme centred on
decarbonised shipping operations.

Four
vessels are destined for Grimaldi
Lines, three for Finnlines and two
for Minoan Lines. The orders for the
engines, propulsion systems and
scrubbers were booked by Wärtsilä in
2025, while the order for the hybrid
electric system for the Finnlines
vessels was booked in the first
quarter of 2026.

Fincantieri
has signed a contract with Marc-Henry
Cruise Holdings LTD, Joint
Owner/Operator of Four Seasons Yachts,
for the construction of a third
ultra-luxury cruise vessel. The value
of the agreement, subject to financing
and other terms and conditions, was
described as significant.

Delivery
is scheduled for 2031. The vessel is
the third unit in a class of
ultra-luxury cruise ships designed
and built by Fincantieri at its
Ancona shipyard.

Foreship
develops energy-efficient ferry
design for the Greek domestic
market

Foreship,
the naval architecture and marine
engineering company of RINA, has
developed a new ferry concept
tailored to the specific operational
and economic requirements of the
Greek domestic market, with a focus
on efficiency, simplicity and cost
control. Greece’s ferry network is
one of the most extensive in Europe,
connecting more than 200 inhabited
islands and transporting around 50
million passengers annually. At the
same time, operators are working
within a highly constrained
environment, shaped by strong
seasonality, regulated pricing and
increasing pressure on operating
costs, alongside the need to renew
an ageing fleet.

India
secures government backing for
ship recycling expansion

India’s
ship recycling sector has received
significant government backing,
according to the latest market
outlook report from Wirana Shipping.

The
report notes that India aims to
recycle 16,000 ships over the next
decade, a figure that broadly
matches BIMCO’s estimate for global
recycling volumes over the same
period. According to Wirana
Shipping, the target demonstrates a
firm resolve by the Indian
government to boost domestic ship
recycling, irrespective of the
volume ultimately achieved by the
country’s recycling facilities.

New
study reveals ETS revenues per
country breaking down shipping’s
EUR 9 billion contribution

A new
study by European Shipowners | ECSA
quantifies for the first time how much
revenues shipping contributes to the
national budget of EU Member States.
European Shipowners urge for a
requirement to reinvest these revenues
in clean fuel availability and clean
tech projects for the energy
transition of shipping.

The
study reveals a breakdown of the
shipping’s contribution to the
national budget of each Member
State. Shipping is estimated to
contribute around
EUR
9 billion
a year to EU and
Member States’ revenues under a
scenario with the carbon price at
EUR 100 per tonne CO2. Even in a
lower price scenario of EUR 85, the
sector brings in a significantly
high EUR 7.65 billion annually.

CORSICA

for Marseille–Bastia service

CORSICA
linea has become the first operator
serving Corsica to launch a pilot
integrating biomethane into the LNG
supply of one of its vessels, with A
GALEOTTA running on BioLNG on the
Bastia–Marseille route during the 2026
summer season.

The
French operator says the switch will
cut
A GALEOTTA’s
carbon footprint
on the Corsican trade by 80 per
cent. The scheme relies on a
certified volume-equivalence system,
under which a quantity of renewable
biomethane derived from organic
waste is produced and injected into
the European gas network in
proportion to the vessel’s LNG
consumption.

The
platform that makes connectivity
at sea work: Nowhere Connect Suite

When
Nowhere Networks started out, the
company built its own shore-to-ship
radio network. As the network grew, no
orchestration platform on the market
offered the control, performance, and
flexibility needed to combine it with
LTE/5G and satellite. So, the team
built their own.

The
result is the Nowhere Connect Suite:
six modules in one cloud-managed
system that brings radio, LTE/5G,
and satellite together into a single
managed solution, with deterministic
traffic shaping, secure corporate
SD-WAN, crew Wi-Fi, a customizable
passenger portal, and onboard
payments.

Rollback
for Hull 102 as Incat’s electric
trio for Molslinjen takes shape

Tasmanian
shipbuilder Incat has rolled back Hull
102 at its Prince of Wales Bay
shipyard in Hobart, marking a major
construction milestone for the first
of three 129-metre battery-electric
fast ferries on order for Danish
operator Molslinjen. The operation,
completed on 3 July, clears the way
for the installation of the vessel’s
passenger deck superstructure.

The
aluminium catamaran will measure
129.28 metres in length overall with
a beam of 30.95 metres and a gross
tonnage of 15,775 GT. Designed for
Molslinjen’s Aarhus–Odden route
across the Kattegat, she will carry
1,483 passengers and 500 cars at a
service speed of 40 knots.
Propulsion is fully electric, with
battery packs totalling 44.75 MWh.

Oceanbird
completes installation and sea
trials of Wing560 on TIRRANNA car
carrier

Oceanbird
has completed the installation and
initial sea trials of its Wing560 wind
propulsion system aboard the Wallenius
Wilhelmsen car carrier TIRRANNA,
marking a significant milestone in the
commercialization of wind-assisted
shipping technology.

The
installation was carried out at
Damen Shipyard in Rotterdam between
21 June and 24 June, after which the
230-metre vessel departed with the
full-scale rigid wing sail
installed. Harbor acceptance tests
and initial sea trials were
successfully completed by 1 July,
confirming that the system is
operational and ready for
performance evaluation under
commercial sailing conditions.
